In Substitution method, we solve one of the equation for one of the variables and then "Substitute" that value in another equation to get the result of another variable and then we can back substitute the value to get result for the first variable.
In Elimination method, we solve the equations by eliminating one of the variable by adding or subtracting the equations given. Once, one variable is eliminated, we can find the results of another variable and can substitute the value of that variable in any of the given equations to get the result for the eliminated variable.
